At Spotify, we’re constantly looking for opportunities to push music and streaming into the future. Earlier this year, we embarked on an adventure to do just that — to go where no streaming service has gone before: into the metaverse.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve partnered with Roblox and created our very own island, called Spotify Island. Our island is a paradise of sound; a place everyone is free to explore, whether it be fans of music or artists themselves, to hang out, buy merchandise, explore sounds, unlock new content, and play interactive quests.

Spotify Island is a colorful place designed to reflect our notable shades of greens, with purple and orange accents mixed in. It consists of a mainland that’s surrounded by various themed islands, where users can jump, run, and walk around and also touch and pick up various objects, like our heart-shape “like” icon, which can later be exchanged for exclusive merch.

The themed islands that users can explore will gradually come to life throughout the year. Each island will feature its own exclusive content, themed mini-quests, and a chance to interact with artists. The first themed island, which we just recently announced at the end of May, is K-Park, which is dedicated to all things K-Pop ( Korean pop music). K-Pop is an extremely popular genre on Spotify, with almost 8 billion streams per month across the United States, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, and more since 2018.

K-Park has an island cafe, which features popular treats such as Patbingsu (Korean shaved ice with toppings) and Dalgona coffee. There’s also a virtual merch shop, which will feature K-Pop items, emotes, and parkour effects that users can unlock after completing different quests. There’s also Artist Island, where you can see some of your favorite K-Pop stars and get merch signed. SUNMI is the first K-Pop artist to be featured in K-Park, and Stray Kids will be coming soon. Roblox users can also create their own K-Pop beats through Soundtrap. You can see a better glimpse of K-Park here.

Of course, Spotify Island wouldn’t be complete without giving users the ability to listen to music while they play. There’s a digital jukebox in the upper right corner of the world that will allow users to play, pause, and skip tracks on a playlist that’s been curated by the Spotify team.

Some of the features we’re most excited about is the availability of in-game Spotify merch that users can carry with them through different parts of Roblox and artist merchandise that will serve as an extra revenue stream for our creators. Also, each island will have a stage area that encourages users to become performers and put on their own shows, which is a feature that will continue to evolve over time.

We’re passionate about improving our platform for our users and artists alike, but extending our outreach into other worlds is an exciting adventure. I’m looking forward to how we can continue to transform the music experience for listeners and creators and how we can bridge the gap between our services and the other interests our users have, which, in this case, is gaming.
